THE FARM

Beetlebung is a historic 6+ acre market garden farm uniquely situated in the heart of Chilmark town center on Martha’s Vineyard. The land was lovingly farmed by four generations of the Fischer family from 1961 through 2018. As its current stewards, we are committed to preserving the agrarian character of Chilmark while tending a place where farming, food, and craft converge.

We have worked to transition this iconic property to a four-season regenerative farm by expanding our fields under cultivation and adding three minimally heated greenhouses and a post-harvest barn which houses our year round farmstand and our farm processing kitchen, stone mill and bakery.

Guided always by the soil and a commitment to regenerative farming practices, we grow a diverse variety of vegetables, herbs, flowers, and berries. One sentence on compost. A small apiary, mature fruit trees, and a young perennial food forest add to the farm’s production and deepen its long-term resilience.

Our new-to-us, nineteenth century barn is the hub for all post-harvest activity. Under one roof, it  supports the happy collision of our farmers with our kitchen, bakery, milling and farmstand team enabling us to move from field to finished food with direct connection and intention.

Our harvests drive the life of the farm: offered fresh at the farmstand, incorporated into our daily grab-and-go foods, and shared more widely at the West Tisbury Farmers Market. This direct connection between land and kitchen allows us to celebrate the work of our farmers and to reflect the season as it is, in real time.

We are committed not only to what we grow and how we grow it, but also to how we participate in the broader Island food system. By partnering with local farmers, fishermen, and food producers, we aim to reflect the full abundance of Martha’s Vineyard while helping to support a resilient, interconnected community of growers and makers.
