THE BARN
In 2019, we began the process of moving a historic barn from New Hampshire to Martha’s Vineyard. It took six weeks to disassemble and catalogue every single piece, starting with the removal of the slate roof. Next the wood roof was removed, followed by the clapboard, then the posts, rafters, and all the stone from the foundation. Every single piece was photographed and numbered and a meticulous key was made.
It took a total of nine ferry reservations to transport the pallets - which included two 46’ top plate timbers, a 46’ five-sided ridge beam and an 8’ square cupola - to our farm. And so began the barn’s new life and adventures on this island.
A heartfelt thank you to the entire BD crew - for dreaming big and making the seemingly impossible actually happen.
